JULY 3 - 8 AND JULY 10 - 15, 2016

PHSD is back for its 23rd year in 2016, and we’re looking forward to seeing you on Silver Star Mountain for two incredible weeks of instruction in Piping, Drumming and Highland Dancing at the World’s largest summer program for Highland arts! PHSD has a stunning location with superb facilities, combined with outstanding instructors and an atmosphere that will inspire you for the entire year. Join Jack Lee, J. Reid Maxwell, Delma Wilson and the world-class instructional staff for two fun weeks of inspired music and dance! Students at PHSD can choose one or two weeks of tuition.

Two Weeks That Will Change the Way You Play and Dance!

Students who choose two weeks receive a discount on both tuition AND hotel accommodations at the Vance Creek Hotel. Both weeks give students class instruction, one-on-one instruction and the opportunity to focus on many specialty areas, such as piobaireachd, other forms of percussion, choreography, tuning, national dances and many others.

Music packages and instructors vary each week, and no matter which week you come, you’ll have top-level instruction with Jack Lee, Reid Maxwell, Stuart Liddell, Steven McWhirter, Delma Wilson and many other fantastic instructors. PHSD instructors are at the top in their respective fields, and they know how to get great results from others. Whatever your level or goals—from novice to professional—the instructors will help you reach your potential.

The Piping Hot Summer Drummer Pipe Bands are a fun and important learning opportunity at PHSD. We have two separate pipe bands, Grade 4 and Grade 5, and both bands are available to pipers and drummers during both weeks of the school. Participating is completely optional and you are welcome to participate in whichever band suits your experience level. Band practices are late in the afternoons and are in addition to your regular classes.

The PHSD Pipe Bands will be performing at the Kamloops Highland Games on July 9th as well as the Student Ceilidhs and other events during both weeks. The PHSD Pipe Band performs in kilts and navy polo shirts. If you have played in the bands in the past, bring along the polo shirt. Navy polo shirts may be ordered with your registrations for $40. Don’t miss this fabulous opportunity to learn terrific pipe band skills in a very fun and rewarding way. Tunes and details will be coming to you through Facebook
and our website, phsd.net.

ENJOY and PLAY: Recitals, Ceilidhs AND A WATER FIGHT!

During PHSD you get to experience some of the World’s premier, prize-winning soloists on pipes and drums, champion Highland dancers, and six-time World Champions, SFU Pipe Band. On Thursday night it’s the students’ turn to shine! The student ceilidh is always a highlight of the school and is followed by the legendary “PHSD After-Ceilidh” where the piping, drumming and dancing are
simply amazing.

Come for PHSD and TWO Great Highland Games

A part from all the other benefits of attending PHSD, there are  also two independent Highland Games nearby the school! This  year, Penticton Scottish Festival is July 2nd, before week 1, and Kamloops Highland Games is July 9th, right in between the two weeks of PHSD. These are great opportunities  to test your solos, compete with the  PHSD Pipe Band, or just go along to enjoy all the music and fun!

Our Amazing Instructors Make a Difference!

We excel at teaching students of all levels at PHSD. Whether you are a beginner, a professional, or any level in between, we will make this a valuable learning experience for you. You will receive over six hours
of formal instruction each day in classes structured according to your experience and interest. Our classes are focused on you, and what you are most interested in learning.

For those people especially interested in Piobaireachd, we have specialized instruction available from Jack Lee, Stuart Liddell, Donald Lindsay, Alan Bevan and others.

Individual Instruction

While at PHSD, you will be able to work on solo competition tunes and scores, learning new tunes or steps, or just getting advice on any aspect of your piping, drumming or dancing. There are spots available each day for private lessons with our instructors. Pipers also get the chance to be “adjudicated” each day in a fun, relaxed setting.

PHSD students march through Silver Star Mountain Village in a spectacular massed band to provide a fitting end to each week, and they are joined by the Highland dancers for a performance that is enjoyed by everyone on the mountain!
